Mutual of Omaha Medicare Supplement:
Mutual of Omaha is a big player when it comes to offering low rates. Mutual of Omaha offers several plan types, but they most purchased supplements are the Plan F and the Plan G. Mutual of Omaha premiums are based on age, tobacco usage, and BMI index. For most people, Mutual of Omaha offers a considerable savings over their current Medicare supplement including the AARP supplements. Mutual of Omaha currently has a very good rate on the Plan G that saves the average person $300-$400 a year. Plan G always requires medical underwriting, so not everyone can get it. That also means that rate increases on Plan G tend to be more stable.
Cigna Supplement (American Retirement Life Insurance)
In most cases, Cigna is the price leader in Las Vegas. This is especially true for people turning 65. Cigna offers Plan F, G and N at competitive prices. Medicare Supplements from Cigna are insured by American Retirement Life Insurance Company (ARLIC). ARLIC has been in business for some time, but they are new to the Las Vegas area. Their rates are very competitive, but we expect them to increase and match their competitors over time.
Anthem Blue Cross
Of the Medicare supplement companies nationwide, Anthem is the second largest player behind AARP. Unfortunately, Anthem’s size has not shielded their members from large rate increases. Currently, Anthem is priced high in the Las Vegas area. If you are considering a Plan F Medicare supplement, you will be at the high end of the price range if you choose Anthem. There is one plan with Anthem that is still a good options for some people and that is the Plan F High Deductible. AARP and Mutual of Omaha do not offer the high deductible Plan F, so Anthem is generally the best option for those looking the high deductible plan.
Aetna’s Medicare Supplement is competitive in price. Aetna is known for their excellence in customer service and longevity. Aetna has a long history (established in 1850) in the health insurance industry, but only began offering Medicare supplements in Las Vegas recently. Aetna offers competitive rates and can be a great alternative for people who want competitive rates from a well-known and respected company.
Medico Insurance Company is a notable provider of Medicare Supplements in the Las Vegas area. Medico offers relatively competitive rates on the supplement Plan F, but we typically recommend other carriers based on cost and brand recognition. Were Medico is most notable is for their Dental, Vision, and Hearing plan that we discuss under Dental Insurance – Click Here>>
Gerber Life Insurance Company was a very popular Medicare supplement provider in Las Vegas. Gerber was the low price leader until they had two years of high rate increases. We consider them to be completely priced out of the market. They are no longer the affordable option that they were a few years ago.
Humana offers Medicare supplements in Las Vegas as an alternative to their Medicare PPOs which tend to be priced high. Humana runs in the middle of the pack with their Medicare Supplement making them an average value. One Note: Humana offers the only Plan F high deductible among major carriers.
Heartland National is another of the Medicare supplement companies in Las Vegas offering moderately competitive rates on Medicare supplement plans. Heartland is most competitive with their rates for women. Their supplement can be a good fit for some, but is certainly not the best answer for everyone.
Sentinel Security Life:
Sentinel Security Life offers a Medicare Supplement Plan F in the Las Vegas area. While Sentinel Security does offer supplements, it is more known for life insurance products such as Final Expense insurance and Long-term Care insurance. Sentinel Security Life’s Medicare supplement plans have average premiums. Usually, there are more persuasive premiums with more known carriers making it uncommon for seniors to choose Sentinel Security.
